Our Medical Assistant Internship Program
Completion of an internship is an important part of our Medical Assistant program and certification. For students enrolled in our daytime classes, a 180-hour internship is included.
These internships offer valuable hands-on training in the daily responsibilities of a Medical Assistant in a live medical office setting. This important part of our certification program equips students with the practical skills and experience necessary to succeed in the medical field.
Upon completion of an internship program, students will be prepared to enter the medical field with real world experience.
What Does a Medical Assistant Do?
An integral member of any healthcare team, a certified Medical Assistant has access to a wide range of career opportunities and benefits from a strong job outlook. The role of a Medical Assistant can vary depending on the type of healthcare facility, but typically includes a mix of administrative and clinical tasks. Some of the common day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Assisting doctors with physical exams and minor surgical procedures.
- Recording patients’ vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
- Updating and maintaining patient electronic health records (EHR).
- Sterilizing medical instruments and sanitizing examination rooms.
- Performing EKGs and phlebotomy procedures.

Technical Standards For a Medical Assistant

- Assist patients on and off the examination table.
- Move equipment, examination tables, and chairs as needed.
- Walk and stand for extended periods of time.
- Demonstrate good hand–eye coordination for reading charts and handling medical supplies.
- Use their senses to recognize changes in a patient’s condition and needs.
- Hear and understand verbal instructions from patients and staff promptly.
- Perform CPR when necessary.
- Accurately check and record vital signs for all patients.

- Accurately gather, understand, and relay information from patients, family members, and medical staff.
