Internship Program

At ACI Medical & Dental School, all of our Medical Assistant day program students complete a 180-hour on-site internship as part of their chosen program.

The internship is a great opportunity for hands-on training at a healthcare facility and will help prepare the student for an in-demand career as a certified Medical Assistant.

  • Secondary Certification Training. Our Medical Assistant Certification program includes training for EKG, Phlebotomy and Patient Care Technician certifications.

Flexible Class Options and Financial Aid

We offer a comprehensive Medical Assistant program with both day and evening class options. The accelerated daytime program is 14 weeks long, while the evening program offers more flexibility with an extended 35-week timeline. Both programs equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become Certified Medical Assistants.

For those seeking financial assistance, ACI Medical & Dental School is approved for Federal Direct Loans (FAFSA) and VA benefits, providing financial assistance to qualifying students. Eligible students can apply for and receive federal financial aid to help cover the cost of their education. Our Medical Assistant Internship Program

Completion of an internship is an important part of our Medical Assistant certification program. For students enrolled in our daytime classes, a 180-hour internship is included.

These internships offer valuable hands-on training in the daily responsibilities of a Medical Assistant in a live medical office setting. This important part of our certification program equips students with the practical skills and experience necessary to succeed in the medical field.

Upon completion of an internship program, students will be prepared to enter the medical field with real world experience.

What Does a Medical Assistant Do?

An integral member of any healthcare team, a certified Medical Assistant has access to a wide range of career opportunities and benefits from a strong job outlook. The role of a Medical Assistant can vary depending on the type of healthcare facility, but typically includes a mix of administrative and clinical tasks. Some of the common day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Assisting doctors with physical exams and minor surgical procedures.
  • Recording patients’ vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
  • Updating and maintaining patient electronic health records (EHR).
  • Sterilizing medical instruments and sanitizing examination rooms.
  • Performing EKGs and phlebotomy procedures.
  • Carrying out other clinical procedures as required by the medical facility.
  • Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens.
  • Understanding anatomy and physiology terminology.
  • Applying knowledge of medical law and ethics as HIPAA. Regulations are utilized throughout the Medical Assistant’s typical day.

Technical Standards For a Medical Assistant

Medical Assistant students at ACI Medical & Dental School will be expected to:

  • Assist patients on and off the examination table.
  • Move equipment, examination tables, and chairs as needed.
  • Walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrate good hand–eye coordination for reading charts and handling medical supplies.
  • Use their senses to recognize changes in a patient’s condition and needs.
  • Hear and understand verbal instructions from patients and staff promptly.
  • Perform CPR when necessary.
  • Accurately check and record vital signs for all patients.

Health and Communication Standards For a Medical Assistant

Our students must also meet specific health and communication standards. They are expected to consistently demonstrate emotional, mental, and physical well-being in order to:

  • Handle stressful situations that may arise from technical procedures, clinical standards, or patient care needs.
  • Apply strong social skills when interacting with patients, their families, supervisors, and coworkers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Accurately gather, understand, and relay information from patients, family members, and medical staff.
  • Use appropriate professional medical terminology when documenting information in a patient’s electronic health record (EHR).
