In recent months, students all over the country have made the transition to online learning due to the coronavirus, and our own students are no exception. ACI Medical & Dental School has temporarily switched to live distance learning to ensure that our students will receive the same excellent education in a virtual environment, utilizing Zoom Meetings and Google Classroom.
While our staff is working hard to make online learning a positive experience for our students, it can still be difficult to get used to taking classes online instead of in person. In their Learning and Leading blog, the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) recently had a post about tips for successful online learning. Here is a summary of their tips for success and how you can make the most of our online medical & dental programs.

5 Tips for Successful Online Learning from NHA
According to the NHA, there are five ‘E’s’ to remember during online learning: Empathy, Encouragement, Embracing technology, Ensuring access, and Engaging.
1. Empathy for Your Instructors and Fellow Students
It is important to remember that your instructors and fellow students are also adapting to online learning just like you are. People are stressed and in difficult situations due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so a key to success in online learning is showing patience and taking the opportunity to connect. Keeping a positive attitude will help you and the other students have a successful experience.
2. Encouragement and Communication
Since you are not there in person, making the extra effort to communicate with your instructors and other students is critical during online learning. This is a time to share your enthusiasm and positivity, offer to help others with time management or connectivity issues, and encourage them to make the most of this unique experience.
3. Embrace the Technology
Technology is your friend during online learning, so take the time to understand Zoom, Google Classroom, and any other programs you may need to use. Make sure you are using the best possible browser and double check everything works so there are no issues during class time. Observe proper online etiquette and avoid any excess noise or distraction to other students. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, as your instructor and other students will be happy to help.
4. Ensure Access
Before your online program starts, make sure you have access to the internet and a working computer or tablet (phones are not ideal because of their small screen size). Some internet providers are offering free internet to students during this time, so research your options if you do not otherwise have access to the internet.
5. Engage with the Material
It can be easy to get distracted when taking classes at home, so it is critically important to focus on your classwork and dedicate time and space for learning during the day. The more you put into online medical & dental programs, the more you will get out of it, so be proactive and use this time staying at home to take the first step in an exciting new career!
